Digitalisation of daily incoming mail in the insurance industry
The Kaufmännische Krankenkasse (KKH) in Hanover is a public-law substitute insurance fund with a budget of around 5.7 billion euros. Around 3,800 employees look after about 1.7 million insured people throughout Germany. The communication of a health insurance company with its insured is multi-layered and requires a high organisational effort across all subject areas. KKH insurance has reorganised and accelerated these processes together with CBS. With the help of IRIS, all of the insurance company’s incoming mail from the 110 branch offices in Germany could be redirected to a bulk mailbox in Hanover. As a result, all documents reach the responsible clerks nationwide in digital form on the day they are received.
“We mainly deal with three types of documents. The first type is treatment certificates. The second type is applications for disability status and compensation. The third type is general correspondence. These documents are digitized when they arrive at the mutual insurance company. They are stored in a central archive, injected into the work streams, and of course can be viewed via a whole series of applications.”
